My family and I are planning on taking a trip to New York City and we are looking for a good tour to take. It will be my daughters’ first time in New York so I want them to learn a lot about the city and its history.
I’ve visited New York several times and my best experience by far was with the East Village History Project/Visitors Center (http://east-village.com). They have lots of different tours depending on what you’re interested in. They do a general history of the area, but there are also tours on gang history, women in history, and a bunch of other topics. All the guides are licensed native New Yorkers who really know what they’re talking about. Plus it’s suggested donation so you just pay what you can. The big commercial tours are so expensive! Also, if you want history check out the NY Historical Society. They’re real experts. Hope this helps!
I think your best bet would be to go to the main attractions your self. There are these things call city passes, you can get free ones on this website.
They have really great attractions and you save a lot of money, (plus you get to skip all the lines). Me and my boyfriend used them on our trip last year. Just go to this site and select the city you want the tickets for. Highly recomend.
