This is a Dodge Demo Screen Promotional Film from Chrysler Corporation. They were used by dealers for salesmen training and in some cases even shown to customers. Approximately 40000 of these Full Sized Dodges were produced in it’s final year of production. There were no Full Sized Dodges after 1977. In 1979, Dodge did introduce the St. Regis which was based off the Chrysler B Platform. This body style was introduced in the 1974 model year at the height of the Arab Oil Embargo and Fuel Crisis.

I have to buy me a Dodge Royal Monaco Brougham.
@comgeek24 I was wondering that too, I assumed it was because of something to do with the rear passenger doors were smaller to allow more room in the front and trunk…that or maybey something to do with safety standards and the rear doors needed extra support bars in them
If this was 1977 all over again, this video would have swayed me to buy the Dodge Monaco. The car just looked grand and more luxurious. However hindsight and history now show that the Caprice was the best car of the 3. You see these old box Chevys EVERYWHERE today in 2010….Monacos rusted out by the mid 1980s as has already been discussed here…and I havent seen a LTD from this generation in over 20 years either.
I wonder if the actors in this are still alive today?…Makes you think
Looks like a beautiful car. This ad is so long that I stopped noticing the faded colors and let my mind wander back in time. It’s a shame how time passes. I want to just walk into a dealership and buy one!
Look at the fussing going on at 1:40.
5stars
@Superdessucke i have said the same thing for a while.. a ford flex and a GM acadia are about 300lbs more than this monaco, pre ‘78 LTD and a ‘76 caprice
a tahoe/suburban is around 6,000 lbs! thats more than a lincoln town car, new yorker or eldorado.. these classics could get better milage with fuel injection and overdrive.
I would take a good ol B-Body over any Sheissler any day.
It’s got a cop motor, a 440 Cubic-inch plant. It’s got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It’s a model made before cat converters so it will run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?!!
Fix the cigarette lighter!
agreed
this is a good video to go to sleep to
My parents drove a 74 Monaco similar to this 77 Royal Monaco. I can remember it being a major POS. It stayed parked at the house more than we drove it because it would hardly run. We depended more on dad’s 77 AMC Pacer. It was more of a reliable car. lol
the daughter is hott..
I think Mopar made better vehicles than Ford and GM did once the Emissions Controls took place and they did a better job coping with the Emissions Controls era than Ford and GM ever did
Sweet all american sedans, all of them. It’s funny that in the midst of all the made-up arguments in favor of the big Dodge, none of which convincing, the only real one in favor of the Dodge, has been overlooked. The big Dodge had a unibody construction which made it a much more roadworthy car than either the Ford or the Chevy!
What you say is very true. All cars and trucks today are significantly heavier than their 70’s earlier counterparts. There are numerous reasons for this. Sound deadeners, power equipement, windows door locks, stereo systems. Even compact cars weigh more. People always make fun of my 62 Chrysler Imperial and suggest it’s a heavy car. But comparatively speaking, it’s ways much less than the luxury cars of the current days.
It’s interesting that the Royal Monaco, a type of car which people were making fun of as a wasteful Behemoth by the late 1970s, is actually a somewhat small car by 2010 new vehicle standards. At 4,200 pounds, it’s about the same weight as a typical mid-size crossover (Lincoln MKX, Kia Borrego, etc). And there are several SUVs on the market that weigh a ton (or more) more than this bad boy. How times have changed!
Plus a few Caprices, Impalas, Fairmonts, etc. That reminds me, do you have anything that compares the Fairmont or Zephyr to any Mopar machine?!!
The ‘77 thru ‘79 Caprice was an outstanding car. I drove a ‘79 from 1999 untill a few years ago when gas went up and it was very reliable and handled beautifully. I miss it, but they are still available on ebay!
love watching these
Got to disagree with you the fuselage cars are ugly compared to these.
Another great video. I could never stand the downsized GM’s. Bland styling and weak powertrains made for a lousy car. I admit they rode nicely though. I doubt I would have bought the Royal Monaco either though, I would have just spent a little less and got the regular intermediate Monaco. I wasn’t a big fan of those full size Mopars after the last of the original fuselage styled cars.
Thanks for the postings but I do respectfully disagree on you comment here. Caprices were solid cars and there are still many of them on the road. They end up being relatively rust free, except in their front and rear bumper design. The Fords were quite the contrary. Even in the day, back in 78, and 79, we were taking in trade used LTD’s on Monacos that were rust buckets I remember one 77 Country Squire that required extensive work before we could put it on the lot.
Of the three ill take the ltd both the caprice and the Ltd are body on frame designs the dodge was a unibody and rusted out real bad. I love them but this is a fact.
